Step Ahead Child Care AcademyStep Ahead's first concern and consideration is your baby. Our approach is designed to be of maximum benefit in their development.
"There's No Place Like Home"
We eliminate the "institutional" setting for your newborn by providing an environment that nurtures and stimulates your baby in a setting as close to "home" as possible. Comfortable cribs, rocking chairs and cozy corners all create a soothing atmosphere. Classical background music helps enhance the mood. Teddy bears and "blankies" all help your baby feel at home.
"A Place To Grow"
The play areas are specifically designed to meet all of your baby's needs. They are bright, cheerful, inviting and conducive to exploring in a safe and secure setting. A wide range of carefully selected toys, books, equipment and manipulatives are provided to aid in each specific area of your baby's development.
INFANT/TODDLER CURRICULUM
In the younger infant group, the bulk of each day is spent just holding, feeding, changing and nurturing your baby. As your child moves into the older infant group and the toddler groups, more activities are added. Older infants and toddlers begin to experience more hands-on adventures such as:
  • Art and Sensory Activities
  • Fine and Gross Motor Activities
  • Baby Sign Language Skills
  • Cognitive Activities
  • Music and Movement Activities
  • Beginning Language Activities
The older infants and toddlers will have regular monthly activities planned. Our teachers design lessons with specific goals to meet each individual child's growing needs. We incorporate a combination of the HighScope Curriculum and Baby Signs tailored to help our children advance through the six main areas of development: Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Communication, Language and Literacy, Cognitive Development and Creative Arts.

Step Ahead's unique curriculum addresses not just academics but social and physical development as well. As your child advances through the Step Ahead program, you can actually see the progress. Step Ahead provides an accelerated learning experience geared to the child who wants and needs a challenge. When our children graduate and embark on their "formal education", they begin at an advanced level and with a love of learning that remains with them.
PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM
Step Ahead's main concern is the children and our approach is designed to be of maximum benefit to your child's development - cognitive, social and physical. Children are grouped by age and maturity with each small group, following an exclusive Kindergarten Prep Program that is a combination of HighScope, Emerging Language and Literacy and our very own unique preschool curriculum. We utilize aspects from each to provide a rich learning environment that is developmentally appropriate and customized to meet your child's needs.
Our preschool program really is the best of everything a curriculum has to offer! Our program features thematic units, teacher-directed instruction both in large and small groups, hands-on learning centers and also traditional paper and pencil learning activities. Step Ahead teachers encourage and support active learning and exploration. At Step Ahead, learning is engaging and fun!
Our curriculum focuses on eight content areas: Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Language, Literacy and Communication, Mathematics, Creative Arts, Science and Technology and Social Studies.
Our mornings are spent in structured preschool activities, which include exposure to:
  • Alphabet and Number Recognition
  • Phonetics
  • Math Activities
  • Vocabulary Development
  • Reading and Writing Skills
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Sequencing and Classifying
  • Fine and Gross Motor Activities
  • Art and Science Activities
  • Music
  • Foreign Language
  • Computer Lab
Our afternoons are spent in less-structured pursuits with plenty of hands-on experiences.
Our extra-curricular activities include dance, sports and gymnastics at an added cost payable directly to each organization. We also have an excellent Summer Camp Program filled with lots of fun and special events throughout the summer.
